Yajmaan for Abhishek

“Alankaarapriyo Vishnuh, Abhishekpriyah Shivah.” This means Vishnu is very fond of Alankaar (fine dress, beautiful ornaments and so on) whereas Lord Shiva is a lover of Abhishek.

The Shivalingam denotes the union of Soul (Purusha) or Self with Consciousness (Prakruti) or material nature. Abhishek signifies the tapas that an individual has to do to realize the Self. Shiva Abhishek benefits a devotee in that the process cleanses the devotee of all limitations, negativities, vrittis, illusions and definitions. Every Abhisheka takes the worshipper closer to the Self and realize his union with the Paramatma.

Yajmaan for Parthiv Shiv Pujan

From time immemorial Lord Shiva is worshipped in His abstract form of a Shivling or Shiva Lingam.

The word Parthiv means Earth. A Parthiv Shivling is handmade from mud and worshipped. Lord Shiva is the Lord of Earth element and is also connected to nature. The Parthiv puja or Parthiv Shivling Puja has special significance as the devotee is rewarded with many blessings.

Lord Ganesh is the most revered and popular deity in Hinduism. He is very special and is also known as Ganapati and Vinayak. Lord Ganesh was born to Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva. Ganesh is the remover of every obstacle and the provider of health, wealth, knowledge, intelligence, wisdom and prosperity.

Lord Ganesha is the chief deity to be worshipped before starting any new work. He is a first and foremost Lord of Hindus, according to the scriptures. Hence, it is mandatory to worship Lord Ganesh before starting any kind of work as he is the destroyer of all obstacles.

Yajmaan for Chandi Paath

The Chandi path is also called the Durga Saptasati. It comprises of the 13 chapters of the Markandeya Purana. It describes the story between the Good and Evil, and how Goddess Durga destroys the Demon Mahishasura.

In good times, the Devi takes the form of Lakshmi and spreads wealth and happiness among her devotees. It is said that reciting the Chandi path will drive away all the negative energies in the reader's life. When all the 700 sacred verses of the Chandi Path are recited with concentration and utmost devotion, then the reader will gain the energy to overcome all obstacles in life.

This tradition began from the Annakoot offerings that were made to mount Govardhan in the times that Lord Krishna was in Vraj.

In the path of devotion, when new things are gained, we must offer them to God so that they represent God’s grace. God has given us rain in the monsoon season, farmers have worked hard, new crops have grown and the grains and food have reached our house.

We must remember that whatever we have is prasad from God. Therefore, we must not misuse it. We must share it and eat it throughout the year. This tradition of Annakoot inspires us to take this resolution.

Bhandara

People of all ancient cultures have the concept of ‘food as a worship offering’. It is one of the commonest expressions of ‘sacredness’ in India. It comes under the category of punya-arjana, ‘earning good karma’.

It has to be borne in mind that this is not a ‘social’ celebration, but a worship offering to God whose “temple you are”. It is done with that sense. For the purpose of bhandara, that worship attitude, mood and mien is maintained. The yajamana (one offering the worship) chooses to serve the food to the entire line of ‘human deities sitting in a line’ with the help of others. If s/he cannot be present, those who serve do so on his/her behalf.

Gaushala Sewa

Gau Seva is Govind Seva. It is also Guru Seva. Gau Mata is Vishwa mata – the universal mother. Jeevatma of Gau Mata has descended directly from Gau-loka, a higher psychic loka which is closer to the Brahma-loka. In reality, cow is considered more sacred than a human being for she is an embodiment of divine love.

The gaus, the brähmanas and the devotees of the Lord are all objects of His special attention because they are very important factors for the general welfare of living beings. (Srimad Bhagavatam 1.8.44)
